R Michael Shaft is a passionate resercher of his ancestral history of Shaftsburg and surrounding Woodhull township in Shiawassee County Michigan. He grew up on his uncle farm there, and attended the historical two room schoolhouse. He is a retired educator and former editor and weekly newspaper publisher.

Michigan Historical sign ribbon cutting is a testament of community involvement of Woodhull Township, Shaftsburg School educators, and Shaft clan. Michael's wife Sharon K Shaft contributed genealogy ancestral records that aided his research. His collection of legal documents, artifacts and records further traces the history of the Shaft Homestead, capital of Michigan for a day.
